The 2021 Honda Accord bowed on Monday with slightly tweaked styling, more tech and a new trim level that will surely appeal to those shopping the popular Accord Sport variant. All in all, the updates should be much appreciated by those still interested in a vehicle with four doors and a trunk.

Renault urges F1 to act in wake of Honda departure

Renault says Formula One must consider bringing forward its next change of engine regulations in the wake of Honda’s decision to withdraw from the championship.

Honda will leave F1 at the end of the 2021 season, citing its desire to focus resources on zero-emission technology. Their departure will leave Red Bull and Alpha Tauri with just three options to choose from for its supply for 2022 and beyond – Renault, Ferrari or Mercedes.

Although there is a complete overhaul of technical regulations in 2022, there is no new rules around power units until 2026. F1 motorsport boss Ross Brawn has admitted it is unlikely any new manufacturer will enter the series until those rules come into force.

Renault F1 boss Cyril Abiteboul thinks Honda’s decision to leave means that date needs to be reconsidered.

TOKYO (Reuters) – Japan’s Honda Motor will end its participation as an engine supplier in the FIA Formula One World Championship at the end of the 2021 season to focus on zero-emission technology, it said on Friday.

The decision was made at the end of September and the company does not intend to return to F1, Chief Executive Takahiro Hachigo said in an online news conference.

“This is not a result of the coronavirus pandemic but because of our longer-term carbon-free goal,” he said.

Like other automakers, Honda is rushing to build new-energy vehicles in an industry shift that Hachigo on Friday described as “once in a century”. That race is accelerating amid the coronavirus outbreak as carmakers review production plans to capture market share with new models including low or zero-emission vehicles.

Honda SUV E Concept previews its electric future in China

Honda gave us what’s likely a thinly disguised look at its first electric vehicle for China ahead of the 2020 Beijing Motor Show this past Saturday. Called the SUV E Concept, the vehicle directly points to a future mass-production model specifically for China, according to Honda. It’s a handsome thing and appears to pull from Honda’s current production cars.

The headlight and overall fascia look like a direct evolution from the current Honda Accord, Civic and even the Clarity with thin, angled headlights and angled face. It’s easy to see where a traditional grille would sit, if this wasn’t a battery-powered concept car. We don’t have any other information on the SUV E Concept’s electric powertrain, so we’ll need to wait and see what the automaker plans to share in the future.
