Scientists at the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas (UAT) in Mexico recently discovered five new species of parasitoid wasps in Mexico, but the name of one of them sounds a bit weird: covida. Why this name?


In fact, the reason is quite simple. The thing is that the team of Andrey Khalaim (also a researcher at the Zoological Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences in Saint Petersburg, Russia) and Enrique Ruíz Cancino discovered the new to science species during the 2020 global quarantine period, imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Their findings are described in a newly published research article, in the peer-reviewed, open-access scientific journal ZooKeys.

Linwei Wang has been named the new director of the Personalized Healthcare Technology signature research initiative at Rochester Institute of Technology. Adam Smith has been named creative director, a new position with the group. SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Springfield Public Schools School Committee is looking for the public’s input on naming a high school gym in honor of their head coach who passed away in April.

Springfield Public Schools spokesperson Azell Cavaan told 22News, the late Coach Kamari Williams served as Head Coach of the men’s varsity basketball team at the High School of Science and Technology from 2014 until his death in April of 2020.

Williams was also an adjustment counselor at Springfield High School and was formally a math teacher at the High School of Science and Technology.

Following a unanimous vote of the Board of Trustees, the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago (MSI) announced today that Chevy Humphrey, President and CEO of the Arizona Science Center, will succeed David Mosena as President and CEO of one of the largest science museums in the world. Mosena is retiring at the end of the year after 23 years leading MSI.

The first woman and Black American to lead MSI, Humphrey is a long-time, successful leader in the museum field. She has served as CEO of the Phoenix-based Arizona Science Center (ASC) for nearly 15 years. Prior to being named CEO in 2005, Humphrey served in multiple roles with the institution.
