The public expects to see police body-camera videos. The question is when they should.

Although the police don’t need the attorney general’s permission, they are asking for his office’s advice on whether they should release body cam videos before cases are prosecuted. And, he said, the rules aren’t clear.

So Neronha is seeking an advisory opinion from the state Supreme Court’s ethics advisory panel, because he said he wants to be able to tell police agencies that they can publicly release videos when police officers use force.

“The point of the letter [to the panel] is to give us the ethical guidance we need to turn it over,” he said. “Right now, our advice to police is we cannot advise to turn that over voluntarily, and perhaps not pursuant to [the state public records law] because of the accused.”

The decision will affect the public’s access to those videos.

For one, it would make a difference in a case in Providence, where a veteran

Old Games Are New Again In These Xbox Series X Videos

Yesterday morning, I woke up to videos of Assassin’s Creed: Unity. I have to be honest, I haven’t thought much about that game in a few years: the Ps4/Xbox One launch title was pretty and ambitious, but also loaded with bugs, bloated with features and ultimately a major black eye for what was then a yearly franchise. It’s been largely forgotten as the series reinvented itself with Origins, which is why I was surprised to see this Digital Foundry video running the game at a smooth 60 FPS, many of those launch bugs long-since patched. And I’m going to be honest: I kind of want to play it.

And while I’m a whole lot less likely to play Blinx The Timesweeper, a 2002 title for the original Xbox, I can’t say that my interest wasn’t piqued by Geoff Keighley booting the thing

Pakistan bans TikTok for ‘immoral’ and ‘indecent’ videos

Pakistan’s telecom regulator has banned TikTok, claiming the app failed to remove “immoral” and “indecent” content. The ban comes just over a month after the regulator, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, banned dating apps, including Tinder and Grindr, for the same reason.

TikTok had been installed 43 million times in Pakistan, according to the analytics firm Sensor Tower. That made it the app’s 12th largest market in terms of installs. The firm estimates TikTok has been installed 2.2 billion times total across Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store.

The ban comes just a few months after TikTok was removed in India over concerns around the app’s Chinese ownership. The United States is still moving to ban TikTok over those same concerns. The ban itself is currently on hold due to a court order, but

Louisville police release body camera videos showing night Breonna Taylor was killed: “My girlfriend’s dead”

Louisville police have released a batch of evidence from an investigation of the raid that killed Breonna Taylor in March. It raises new questions over why police targeted her home in an effort to prosecute her ex-boyfriend.

A police lieutenant who came to the scene after the shooting told investigators, “something really bad happened.”

The material includes more than 250 videos and more than 4,000 pages of documents. It was released Wednesday as the outcry for justice for Taylor continues.

Former Detective Brett Hankison pleaded not guilty to three counts of wanton endangerment for endangering the lives of three people in the neighboring apartment, the only charges that were filed by the grand jury reviewing Taylor’s death. Neither Hankison nor the two other officers involved in the fatal police shooting were charged directly with Taylor’s death.

Slack Rallies After Unveiling Connect DMs, Plans for Instagram Stories-Like Videos

Slack’s  (WORK) – Get Report stock rose 3.5% in Wednesday trading — leaving it back around where it was prior to a post-earnings tumble in September — after the company unveiled a host of new and planned features for its collaboration platform.

On Wednesday morning, as Slack kicked off its Frontiers conference for customers and developers, the company announced that its Connect platform, which currently lets workers from different organizations communicate with each other via shared channels, will support direct messaging between individuals starting in early 2021.

How Slack Connect Is Evolving

Provided that the companies in question have approved such activity, an employee at Company A will only need to click on a link shared by an employee at Company B to request a DM connection. Slack CEO Stewart Butterfield notes that (in addition to sharing links via Slack) users could do things such as put links

First PS5 hands-on videos show off hardware and games, but no UI

Sony has invited a number of Japanese publications and YouTubers to get a closer look at the PlayStation 5. It’s the first time we’ve seen the PS5 hardware outside of leaked images from Taiwan’s National Communications Commission. A variety of publications have now published detailed hands-on images and videos of the PS5, providing a more realistic look at how big the console is and gameplay of titles like Astro’s Playroom and Godfall.

4gamer has published photos of the PS5 standing both vertically and horizontally, demonstrating how the stand works in either position to hold the console in place. Some photos also show how the PS5 will cool itself, and 4gamer notes that it wasn’t able to hear the fan inside the console or feel much heat exhausting from it during its limited time with the hardware.

Although these PS5 previews are clearly in a very limited environment, one of

Thinkware’s Tough M1 Action Camera System Smooths Out Your Motorcycle Ride Videos

I reviewed a lot of dash cameras this summer and it was time to try something a little bit different: a dash cam for my motorcycle. The first one to arrive was the Thinkware M1 Motorsports Cam system. This system features two high definition video cameras in basically nuclear explosion-proof cases, a central control box with a built-in GPS antenna, and a wired remote control that goes on your handlebars. The system works just like a dash cam system in a car in that it is always recording once you start up your bike, but the remote control system lets you record longer sections of video if you want to capture a longer ride or a specific incident that happens in front of you. It
