The US should build a formal tech alliance with India that will help develop an overarching Indo-Pacific strategy focused on emerging technology, an independent federal commission on artificial intelligence has said. The newly-created National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence in its report on Tuesday said the Department of State and the Department of Defence should negotiate formal AI cooperation agreements with India, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea and Vietnam.

Apple’s Apple TV+ division has joined the Motion Picture Association of America’s Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), an anti-piracy group committed to “supporting the legal marketplace for video content and addressing the challenge of online piracy.”
ACE first launched in June 2017 with Netflix and Amazon as founding members, and dozens of movie and content studios have joined like Comcast, Disney, NBC, BBC, AMC, MGM, ViacomCBS, Paramount, Fox, and others.
Apple TV+ will join the ACE governing board, which includes Amazon, Disney, NBCUniversal, Netflix, Paramount, Sony Pictures, Warner Bros., in addition to Apple.
ACE’s goal is to disrupt the piracy ecosystem that harms creators, with streaming piracy representing 80 percent of all piracy today, costing companies as much as $71 billion annually. As noted by Axios, streaming piracy is a greater concern to Apple now that it has original streaming content to protect.
AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Texas at Austin is participating in a 3½-year collaborative project with top research universities to increase the number of underrepresented minority faculty members in mathematics, physical and earth sciences, and engineering (MPESE) fields at research universities.
The project has been selected to become one of the Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP), funded by the National Science Foundation. The alliance will provide underrepresented minority doctoral and postdoctoral students training opportunities to learn and network at partner institutions, conduct research exchange visits and develop resources for placement, hiring and advancement of these students into faculty positions. Underrepresented minority students include African Americans, Chicanos/Latinos, Native Americans/Alaskan Natives and Pacific Islanders.

ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 28 (UPI) — United Launch Alliance postponed launch of a spy satellite for the U.S. Department of Defense on Monday due to lightning and stormy weather in the area near Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.
The company’s powerful Delta IV Heavy rocket had been scheduled to carry the satellite aloft at 12:02 a.m. EDT Tuesday.
ULA set a new new launch time for 11:58 p.m. EDT Tuesday. A significant risk exists, however, that storms could postpone liftoff again, according to U.S. Space Force meteorologists.
The launch has been delayed by various woes besides Mother Nature.
On Aug. 29, controllers halted a launch three seconds before liftoff. The company blamed a faulty helium pressure regulator for that abort. The mission was further delayed due to a problem with a retractable support arm at the launch site, according to ULA.
