The night sky will bring an added treat this Halloween as it features a spectacle that has not occurred in nearly two decades.
Halloween is shaping up much differently this year due to the coronavirus pandemic with some communities electing to cancel trick-or-treating to reduce the risk of the virus spreading from one household to another. But in neighborhoods where young masqueraders will be going door-to-door collecting candy, they will have a bright full moon to help light the way.
This won’t be the typical full moon, either — it will be a blue moon.

Contrary to its name, a blue moon does not appear blue in color. It is simply the nickname given to the second full moon in
Oct. 13 (UPI) — Blue Origin successfully launched a NASA moon landing experiment aboard the company’s reusable New Shepard rocket Tuesday morning in Texas.
Liftoff took place from the company’s launch facilities about 150 miles east of El Paso.
The capsule separated from the rocket minutes into the flight and spent about 3 minutes at the height of an arc just over the Kármán line, the altitude at which space begins.
The rocket booster, with NASA sensors mounted on the exterior, landed smoothly about 7 minutes, 30 seconds after launch. The capsule landed with the aid of parachutes a few minutes later, kicking up a cloud of dust and sand.
The NASA experiment is part of the agency’s Tipping Point program, which seeks to demonstrate technology that can be adopted by private industry.
The project includes a collection of sensors designed to help locate a safe site on the moon
West Texas is not quite like the moon. But it can serve as a handy stand-in.
On Tuesday, Blue Origin, the rocket company started by Jeffrey P. Bezos, the chief executive of Amazon, launched — and landed — its small New Shepard rocket and capsule for the 13th time as part of tests to verify safety before any passengers climb aboard.
One day, this will be New Shepard’s main business: flying well-to-do people above the 62-mile altitude generally considered the beginning of outer space where they will experience a few minutes of weightlessness as the capsule arcs.
Blue Origin is not a new company — Mr. Bezos founded it in 2000 — but for most of its existence, it operated in secret without generating much revenue. Three years ago, Mr. Bezos said he was selling a billion dollars a year in Amazon stock to finance Blue Origin’s research and development.
Blue Origin, the US space company founded by billionaire Jeff Bezos, succeeded Tuesday in its latest test flight of its rocket aimed at one day taking tourists to space, even as the date of the first crewed launch remains unclear.
The New Shepard capsule, which was propelled over the boundary of space by a small reusable launch vehicle that returned to land vertically, will one day carry up to six passengers.
It attained an altitude of 66 miles (106 kilometers) above sea level, before descending back to the surface using parachutes and landing in a cloud of dust in the desert of West Texas.
Its total flight time was 10 minutes and nine seconds.
Blue Origin previously unveiled the capsule’s interior: six seats with horizontal backrests, placed next to large portholes, in a futuristic cabin with swish
Science and Technology Minister Izhar Shay has threatened that if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tries to go to new elections during the current crisis the Blue and White party will “ensure” that he does not remain in his position. The minister’s comments come as trust between Netanyahu’s Likud and its senior coalition partner Blue and White has sunk to new lows in recent days, amid a renewed fight over the state budget and political demonstrations.“The Likud is going to abuse the citizens; whoever goes to elections will pay the price,” said Shai on Channel 12’s Meet the Press program in reference to comments made by Likud MKs and coalition chairman Miki Zohar of late calling on the prime minister to break up the coalition.“The Likud made known this week through Miki Zohar that they will not work on the budget in order to dismantle the government,” said Shai.A state budget for
AC major Blue Star Limited on Wednesday announced the launch of a range of new products and solutions with the Virus Deactivation Technology (VDT), which the company said can deactivate viruses, including Covid-19, with up to 99.9 per cent efficacy when air passes through these systems. This is a bid to provide additional protection against the virus in air-conditioned spaces, the company said.
There would be a total of 17 such new AC models. The VDT will have one of the following components, the ‘livinguard filter’ or the ‘UVC emitters’. The ‘Livinguard’, which can be incorporated in the ACs at a price of ₹2,000, filter attracts the negatively charged viruses including Covid-19 (SARS-CoV-2) and other microbes, like a powerful magnet, and completely deactivates them when air passes through this filter, the company claimed. The Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation or UVGI technology can be incorporated in the ACs for ₹4,000. The UVC
To cater to the rising fears of coronavirus infection in closed spaces, air conditioning and commercial refrigeration major Blue Star has launched new products and services with virus deactivation technology (VDT).
The company said that VDT has the capability to deactivate viruses, including coronavirus, with up to 99.9 percent efficacy when air passes through these systems.
Blue Star joins a slew of other companies like Sharp and Orient Electric launching anti-viral technology and allied devices to help combat COVID-19.
Electronics goods maker Sharp Corporation has developed a device equipped with plasmacluster technology that it claims, in a research test, has the ability to reduce the infectious titre of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) by more than 90 percent.
In fact, even consumer goods companies have launched products like anti-viral plywood (CenturyPly), anti-viral fabric (Siyarams) to laundry sanitiser (Dettol).
