Flares from the sun are some of the nastiest things in the solar system. When the sun flares, it belches out intense X-ray radiation (and sometimes even worse). Predicting solar flares is a tricky job, and a new research paper sheds light on a possible new technique: looking for telltale ripples in the surface of the sun minutes before the blast comes.

The sun’s magnetic fields are usually nice and calm, but they can become tangled up with each other. When they do, they store a massive amount of energy. And when they finally snap, it’s like a giant Earth-sized rubber band reaching the breaking point. These events are known as solar flares, and they are one of the most energetic events in the solar system.

Apple’s new iPhone is finally coming. Are you excited yet?

New iPhones will be revealed today, but do phone shoppers still have the same lovin’ feeling?

a group of people walking down the street: Standing on line outside an Apple Store in Tokyo

Standing on line outside an Apple Store in Tokyo

For years, like clockwork, new iPhones have been released in the fall and consumers snapped them up quickly, before inventory inevitably ran out, and slow responders were forced to wait for weeks.

Enthusiasts camped out in tents to snag bragging rights to be first with the new iPhone. Then Apple got better at inventory management, and convinced customers they didn’t have to wait on line, just order it ahead of time, and it would be awaiting you on release day. So we don’t see the masses outside Apple Stores like we used to.

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

And with a pandemic and many Apple Stores closed to the public,

New Stock Coming October 13, When And Where

PS5 and Xbox Series X pre-orders are a white whale these days: they sold out within moments of going live on their respective pre-order dates, and PS5 did so again when GameStop got a restock. Since then things have been pretty quiet as we move towards the November 10 and November 12 release date, when we expect to get some more stock in physical and digital retailers. One retailer, however, says that it’s going to have more stock tomorrow, October 13.

Earlier today, I got an email from antonline, which says that it will have new PS5 and Xbox Series X pre-order stock at 2:00 PM, so head on over to the store to see if you can snag one. The catch is that it seems to be offering bundles from $559-$779.95, so you won’t be buying a standalone console. An extra controller or

  • In November, the ISS will celebrate the 20th year of continuous human presence aboard the space lab

Three astronauts are set to launch to the International Space Station (ISS) this week to join the three astronauts currently aboard the orbiting laboratory. But their time together will be short-lived because the three current residents are already set to come home next week.

NASA astronaut Kate Rubins and Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Ryzhikov and Sergey Kud-Sverchkov are scheduled to launch aboard a Soyuz MS-17 spacecraft Wednesday. The three will launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan and are expected to arrive and dock to the ISS just hours later around 4:52 a.m EDT.

Intel Confirms Rocket Lake Processors Coming Q1 2021 With PCIe 4.0 Support

Intel has confirmed its next-gen Rocket Lake desktop processors will launch in Q1 2021 and include PCIe 4.0 support.

Intel’s John Bonini, VP and GM of Client Computing Group Desktop, Workstations and Gaming, posted in a blog today, detailing the company’s commitment to gaming. The successors to the current Comet Lake 10th Gen processors are expected, amongst other things to bring PCIe 4.0 support – currently lacking from its mainstream CPUs, which have meant they’ve lagged behind AMD’s current 3rd Gen Ryzen CPUs that brought the new standard to its AM4 platform last year. Not only this, but Nvidia’s recent RTX 3000 series graphics cards also support PCIe 4.0.

The launch of Intel’s Z490 chipset and 10th Gen CPUs several months ago saw several motherboard manufacturers reveal that their new products

Poco confirms true Poco F1 successor is coming, addresses rebranding

A Poco F1 successor is reportedly coming.

  • A Poco executive has apparently claimed that a true Poco F1 successor is on the way.
  • The representative also addressed criticism of the brand’s rebranding strategy.
  • Poco will reportedly continue to offer rebranded devices in the future.

The Poco F2 Pro is one of the best affordable flagships in 2020, coming as a rebranded version of the China-only Redmi K30 Pro. Nevertheless, we thought it made all the right compromises for the price.

Still, the $500 price means that the Poco F2 Pro is significantly more expensive than the ~$300 Poco F1 launched back in 2018. Now, Poco country director Anuj Sharma has confirmed to The Indian Express that the Poco F2 Pro isn’t coming to India.

Furthermore, the Poco exec said a real successor to the Poco F1 is indeed coming:

The Poco F1 was a device that changed the market and consumers expect the same from the successor.
