The test, called FELUDA—an acronym for FNCAS9 Editor-Limited Uniform Detection Assay—was named after a popular Indian fictional detective. It intends to “address the urgent need for accurate mass testing,” according to a statement from TATA Sons, which manufactured the test.

The kit could be manufactured for self-testing in the future, according to Agarwal, but the prototype being developed currently is only intended for testing in labs.

The FELUDA test follows a similar rapid test kit developed in the US this spring. Both tests use a gene-editing technology called CRISPR to detect the virus in a patient’s RNA. The US Food and Drug

The Virginia Tech Hokies lost to the Duke Blue Devils when the two teams previously met in September of last year, but they didn’t allow Duke the same satisfaction this time around. The Hokies walked away with a 38-31 victory Saturday.

RB Deon Jackson hadn’t helped Duke’s cause all that much against the Virginia Cavaliers last week, but the same can’t be said for this matchup. The losing side was boosted by Jackson, who punched in two rushing touchdowns. That’s the most rushing touchdowns Jackson has had all year.

The win improved Virginia Tech’s record to

The Texas Tech Red Raiders are 1-4 against the Kansas State Wildcats since November of 2015, but they’ll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Red Raiders are packing up and heading on the road for their first away game this season. They face off against K-State at Bill Snyder Family Stadium at 3:30 p.m. ET. The point spread is more or less neutral, so fans should expect a close contest.

Texas Tech fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Texas Longhorns on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result, falling 63-56. Yes, you read that final score correctly. And yes, they were playing football. Comparison of genes and MRI results shows associations — ScienceDaily

A new study implicates 160 genes in brain shrinkage seen on MRIs of 45,000 healthy adults. The shrinkage is in the cortex, the dimply outer layer of the brain that gives rise to thinking, awareness and action, and largely consists of gray matter.

The study, published Sept. 22 in the journal Nature Communications, examined 34 regions of the cortex in a discovery group of 22,894 individuals, then confirmed the findings in a replication group of 22,635 individuals.

“It is important to understand the biology of multiple regions of the cortex because each is affected differently in the various types of neurodegeneration including Alzheimer’s disease,” said Sudha Seshadri, MD, senior study author from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio).

“We asked, ‘What are the genes that seem to determine the thickness, area and volume of gray matter in these regions?'” Dr. Seshadri,
