Agency Reveals Details About Bennu, Including Finding Possible Lifeforms

KEY POINTS

  • OSIRIS-REx will collect samples from Bennu on Oct. 20

  • Nightingale will be the mission’s primary sample site
  • The samples are set to be delivered back on Earth on Sept. 24, 2023

NASA has shared more information about asteroid Bennu and the agency’s mission to bring back samples of the asteroid’s surface through their OSIRIS-REx mission on Oct. 20. The 861-foot asteroid may contain ingredients for life.

In a recent article shared by NASA, the Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, Security-Regolith Explorer (OSIRIS-REx) is set to travel to a near-Earth asteroid named Bennu to collect a 2.1-ounce sample and bring it back to Earth for further study. The mission plans to shed more light for scientists on how life began in the solar system, as well as improve their knowledge on asteroids that

Official render reveals the Huawei Mate 40 series’ unique camera array

huawei mate 40 octagonal camera array
  • An official render of a Huawei Mate 40 series phone has surfaced online.
  • The render suggests at least one of the phones in the series will sport an octagonal camera array.
  • It seems the phone will also sport physical volume buttons.

Growing tired of the all-too-common rectangle camera arrays on flagships? The Huawei Mate 40 series may represent something of a break. According to a teaser (via GSMArena) posted to Weibo by Huawei’s head of mobile product, He Gang, at least one of the phones in the range will sport an octagonal camera array.

Judging by the render, the six-sided array will occupy a large portion of the phone’s upper third. It’s a stark departure from previous non-official renders portraying the Mate 40 with a circular camera array. The render doesn’t give us much info on the actual sensor arrangement or how many shooters will be present. Huawei fans

Biden or Trump? Survey Reveals Americans’ Views on Future of Social Security

Just in case it may have somehow slipped your mind amid the barrage of news coverage, ads, and tweets, there’s a political election coming up this November. The differences between the candidates have been well documented, but how are those differences perceived by the voting public?

In the case of how Americans view the candidates’ respective views on Social Security, a new survey by Simplywise, a fintech that provides technology to help people plan and save for retirement, sheds some light. The company’s most recent Retirement Confidence Index, released in September, revealed that 63% of Americans feel confident in the future of Social Security if the Democratic challenger, former Vice president Joe Biden, is elected, while only 44% feel confident if President Donald Trump is reelected. Among people age 60 and over, 59% feel confident in the future of Social Security if Biden wins compared to 43% for Trump.

Half of All UK Companies Fall Into Bottom Quadrant of Competitiveness, Posing Threat to UK’s Future Prosperity, New Research Reveals

LONDON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Oct 12, 2020–

A new model of competitiveness devised by academics at Goldsmiths, University of London in partnership with Microsoft scores almost half (46%) of UK firms in the lowest quadrant, posing a threat to Britain’s prosperity as organisations rally from the impact of COVID-19, and prepare for Brexit as UK-EU negotiations reach their conclusion.

The research finds that more than half (54%) of UK organisations surveyed have seen a decrease in revenue this year compared to last year, with more than one in five (22%) experiencing a drop greater than 15%. The same proportion (22%) had to scrap an existing business model within days of entering the UK’s first lockdown, and 45% of leaders surveyed expect their current business model will cease to exist in 5 years’ time – an increase of 12% over the past year.

However, the model also identifies minimal, rapid changes that UK organisations

COVID-19 Impact Reveals Global Leadership Crisis, According to New Global Survey

The Milken Institute and The Harris Poll today released the findings of a joint research program called “The Listening Project,” finding a global void in leadership as the COVID-19 pandemic has killed more than one million people worldwide and has crippled international economies.

This press release features multimedia. View the full release here: https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20201011005060/en/

The global survey, which was conducted in two phases (before and during COVID-19*) among nearly 30,000 people across 27 countries, found “access and affordability to healthcare” and “communicable/infectious disease containment and prevention” tied as the top two priorities on the list. “Corruption and transparency” rose to the third most urgent problem, as citizens became frustrated with government’s handling of COVID-19 around the globe.

“The Listening Project” demonstrates the widespread lack of support for how countries have handled COVID-19. For example:

  • Globally, 71% of respondents said “this

JLR reveals new noise cancelling technology

Now Jaguar Land Rover has taken on the task of reducing unwanted road and tyre sounds in its luxury cars.

JLR, which has a major engine factory alongside the M54, is using new noise reducing technology to provide a quieter experience for drivers and passengers.

The technology, introduced on the new Jaguar F-PACE, new Jaguar XF and Range Rover Velar, is capable of lowering unwanted noise peaks by 10 decibels and overall noise levels by three to four decibels – the equivalent of turning down the in-car sound system by four ‘steps’.

This significant reduction

Sony finally reveals which PS4 games won’t work on PS5

Sony has been saying for months that the vast majority of PS4 games will work on PS5 through backwards compatibility, and it’s good to get some clarity on those that won’t work. Microsoft, on the other hand, says titles going all the way back to the original Xbox will work on Xbox Series X and Series S.

There are some other details about the PS5 backwards compatibility on Sony’s support page. Some PS4 games will get a bit of an upgrade, thanks to the PS5’s Game Boost feature, which seems similar to the PS4 Pro’s Boost Mode. Compatible titles will run more smoothly and/or have a higher frame rate.

Certain features in some titles might not work on PS5 (though Sony didn’t go into specifics), and you might run into “errors or unexpected behavior” while playing PS4 games. The company suggests testing your PS4 games on PS5 before buying any

Jaguar Land Rover Reveals Headphone-Style Noise Cancelling Tech To Cut Driver Fatigue

Driver fatigue brought on by the monotonous drone of road roar and wind noise could soon be a thing of the past, as Jaguar Land Rover reveals new noise-cancelling technology.

Similar to how headphones with ANC (active noise cancelling) work, the new system uses sensors on each wheel to monitor vibrations. These are then used to produce a sound wave through the car’s audio system that cancels out the unwanted noise, particularly low-frequency sounds up to 300Hz.

The system debuts on the new Jaguar F-Pace, new Jaguar XE, and Range Rover Velar, but is likely to soon roll-out across the rest of the JLR range.

JLR explains how the system “calculates the opposite phase sound wave needed to remove the noise heard by the
