Vantrue OnDash N4 Three-Camera Dashcam System

It finally happened – and I didn’t even see it. After years of rather (thankfully) uneventful driving with various dash cameras, I finally captured something worth hitting the “save” button. I had stopped to drop off some donations during the COVID outbreak and while chatting with the donation center attendant, there was a screeching of tires and the unmistakable crunch of metal and the shattering of glass.

Like I said, I wasn’t driving at the time, but I had left my car running and the Vantrue OnDash N4 dash camera system, which features three cameras, had captured the scene with the front-facing camera. Upon review, the clear 1440P front camera had recorded a red car crashing into the driver’s door

Google Will Enforce Its Billing System On All Play Store Apps Ensuring A 30% Cut On Sales

Topline

Google will no longer allow app makers to circumvent the payment system built into the Google Play store, allowing it to take a 30% cut of all sales made through the platform in a similar vein to Apple’s App Store, even as the iPhone maker fights a court battle over its enforcement of a similar rule.

Key Facts

In a blog post on Monday, Google clarified its policy on the issue noting that companies that offer their apps through the Google Play Store will have to use the platform holder’s billing system.

Google said that app makers will have until September 2021 to integrate its billing system on to their apps.

Google takes a 30% cut of all sales made through its own billing system, similar to Apple and its App Store.

App makers like Netflix

Binance unveils a new ‘decentralized’ stablecoin system, Venus

Crypto exchange Binance has unveiled a new “decentralized” stablecoin system called Venus.

The system is built on the Binance Smart Chain and will mint the decentralized stablecoin called VAI, backed by a basket of various BEP-20 tokens (BEP-20 is Binance’s token standard). The Venus protocol can be seen as a mixture of MakerDAO and Compound, said Binance CEO Changpeng “CZ” Zhao.

“VAI is minted by the same collateral that is supplied to the protocol. Users can borrow up to 50% of the remaining collateral value they have on the protocol from their vTokens to mint VAI,” said Binance. “The collateral provided to Venus will be represented by vTokens (such as vBTC) which will enable users to redeem the underlying collateral as well as to borrow against it.”

Using the Venus protocol, users will also be able to stake their Binance coin (BNB), Binance stablecoin (BUSD), and Swipe (SXP) tokens into

Some Google Search Rivals Lose Footing on Android System

A system Google set up to promote competition on Android has left some smaller search engines having trouble gaining traction, fueling rivals’ complaints about the tech giant’s compliance with a European Union antitrust decision ahead of potential U.S. charges.

Since March, Alphabet Inc.-owned Google has been showing people in Europe who set up new mobile devices running the company’s Android operating system what it calls a “choice screen,” a list of rival search engines that they can select as the device’s default. The system is part of Google’s compliance with a 2018 decision that found the company used Android’s dominance to strong-arm phone makers into pre-installing its search engine.

But some small search engines that are relatively popular in Europe failed to win spots in large European countries in the latest round of auctions to appear on the choice screen, according to people familiar with the results. The results, which

Remnants of an ancient asteroid shed new light on the early solar system — ScienceDaily

Researchers have shaken up a once accepted timeline for cataclysmic events in the early solar system. About 4.5 Ga (giga-anum, or billion years ago), as a large disc of dust and ice collapsed around our newly formed star, planets and smaller celestial bodies were formed. What followed was a chaotic and violent period of collisions and impacts as the familiar eight planets carved out their orbits to resemble the balanced system we observe today. Geological and geochemical records indicate that after about 600-700 million years after formation — but still early in the solar system’s existence — the Earth-Moon system experienced a period of frequent and cataclysmic impacts from asteroids and other bodies. This period is dubbed the late heavy bombardment (LHB) period.

It was once thought that this period had a relatively sudden onset, but a research team at Hiroshima University and The University of Tokyo in Japan have

U.K. to revise strategy for satellite navigation system

WASHINGTON — The British government, seeking a replacement for the Galileo satellite navigation system, said it will consider alternatives to an original plan to develop its own satellite constellation.

In a Sept. 24 statement, the British government’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy said an ongoing study to examine the feasibility of a U.K. Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) will shift to one that will look at “new and alternative ways” of providing those services.

The new Space-Based Positioning Navigation and Timing Programme (SBPP) will “consider newer, more innovative ideas of delivering global ‘sat nav’ and secure satellite services to meet public, government and industry needs,” the department announced in its statement.

The U.K. GNSS effort started in 2018 when the British government failed to reach an agreement with the European Union about continued participation in the E.U.’s Galileo satellite navigation program once Britain leaves the E.U. Without an

UC San Diego launches smartphone-based COVID-19 exposure notification system

Elizabeth Meckert breathed a small sigh of relief when her son, Andrew, a freshman at UC San Diego, set up his iPhone to let him know if he comes in contact with someone who later tests positive for COVID-19.

This digital heads-up is made possible with smartphone-based exposure notifications. California recently gave UC San Diego the go-ahead to test the technology, and the La Jolla university launched its pilot program on Thursday. Students like Andrew were quick to try it.

“It makes me feel better to know that he’ll know right away if someone he’s come in contact with tests positive. It’s a little insurance policy,” said Elizabeth Meckert. She traveled to the campus from Lake Oswego, Ore., to help her son move into his dorm. “It’s scary enough sending your freshman away to college this far away, but with COVID, it makes it even scarier.”

University officials hope the
