Chandigarh, October 11

The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Mohali, has developed the technology for aquaponic cultivation of plants, which is not only environment-friendly but also has high socio-economic benefits for the farming community.

Aquaponics is an emerging technique in which both fish as well as plants complement each other to sustain and grow. The fish waste provides organic food for plants and the plants naturally filter the water which is used to replenish the fish tank. There is no requirement for the use of soil and fertilisers.

“The process is completely organic, increases the productivity of the given land, saves water and also augments the farmers’ income,” Dr PK Khosla, director C-DAC, said, adding: “The technology has been developed and suitable protocols have been evolved for scientists and farmers,” he added.

A pilot project to develop the technology was awarded to C-DAC

Jammu, October 10

The J&K Administration is introducing biofloc technology (BFT) to boost fish farming in the potential areas across the union territory, a senior government official has said.

Navin Choudhary, Principal Secretary, Fisheries, Animal-Sheep Husbandry, Agriculture, Horticulture and Cooperative, said the department planned to promote the novel technology among the farming community and unemployed youths for adoption as an income-generating fish farming unit.

Considered as a new “blue revolution” in aquaculture, Biofloc is a profitable method of fish farming and has become very popular all around the word as an alternative to open pond fish farming.

It is a low-cost way in which toxic materials for the fish such as ammonia, nitrate and nitrite can be converted into feed.

The principle of this technique is to recycle nutrients.

“In view of the multiple benefits of the BFT system over the conventional pond fish culture system and to demonstrate this

Smartphone reveals how spiritual texts can promote well-being : The Tribune India

New York, October 4

Smartphones not only reveal your screen time, chat history or gaming preferences but are a useful tool to find a link between individuals’ daily spiritual experiences and overall well-being, say, researchers.

While other studies have found such a connection between spirituality and positive emotions, the new study is significant because frequent texting over smartphones made it easier to capture respondents’ moment-to-moment spiritual experiences over 14 days rather than only one or two points in time.

Using smartphone check-ins twice a day for two weeks, researchers from Baylor University and Harvard University examined whether spirituality’s link with satisfaction is stable or momentary, “This study is unique because it examines daily spiritual experiences — such as feeling God’s presence, finding strength in religion or spirituality, and feeling inner peace and harmony — as both stable traits and as states that fluctuate,” said study co-author Matt Bradshaw, a research

Blockchain technology is future of Twitter: CEO Jack Dorsey : The Tribune India

San Francisco, September 28

Twitter and Square CEO Jack Dorsey has once again reiterated that Bitcoin and Blockchain technology is the future of his micro-blogging platform to keep it more secure from hackers.

Dorsey last year announced a non-profit platform called Bluesky to develop an open and decentralised standard for social media.

“Blockchain and Bitcoin point to a future, point to a world, where content exists forever. We’re not in the content hosting business anymore, we’re in the discovery business,” the Square CEO said during the virtual Oslo Freedom Forum 2020 last Friday.

Dorsey expects Blue Sky to create an open Twitter protocol, which users can contribute to and access data from instead of a centralized service where the social media platform hosts content on its website.

“(Blue Sky) is a completely separate nonprofit from the company (Twitter),” Dorsey said.

“We’ll focus on becoming a client of it so we
