Last meeting: Iowa State defeated Texas Tech 34-24 on Oct. 19, 2019, in Lubbock, Tx.

What’s at stake?

This may only be Texas Tech’s fourth game, but it likely will decide the fate of the season and, possibly, Matt Wells’ future in Lubbock. It sounds dramatic, but the Red Raiders need this upset in a bad way. Texas Tech is tied with Oklahoma for eighth place in the conference.

Since Matt Campbell took over in 2016 the Red Raiders are 0-4 against the Cyclones, including an embarrassing 66-10 loss by Patrick Mahomes and company in Campbell’s first year. That year’s Iowa State team finished the year 3-9.

Kansas State faces Texas Tech after upset win over then-No. 3 Oklahoma

Kansas State went from a season-opening letdown against Arkansas State — at home, no less — to a dramatic, come-from-behind road win over No. 3 Oklahoma.

Good luck figuring out which Wildcats are going to show up this weekend.

After experiencing the highest of highs and lowest of lows, coach Chris Klieman’s bunch will return home to face Texas Tech on Saturday trying to establish an even keel. And with the Wildcats (1-1) suddenly in the thick for the Big 12 title race thanks to their win over the Sooners, they understand they can’t afford a whiff against the Red Raiders.

“It has to be sustained,” Klieman said. “We need to do this for the long haul; that’s the challenge we made to our guys. We didn’t play well in Week 1 and you lose. We played well and played hard in Week 2 and had an opportunity to win.

Texas vs. Texas Tech score: No. 8 Longhorns charge back from 15 down to stave off major upset bid in OT

Texas Tech inducted former wide receiver Michael Crabtree into its Ring of Honor on Saturday, nearly 12 years after he tore the hearts out of the then-top ranked Texas with his game-winning touchdown catch. A few hours later, the Longhorns returned the favor. Down 56-41 with 3:13 to play, No. 8 Texas reeled off a 22-point comeback that will go down as one of the most incredible endings in the history of this Big 12 rivalry.

It began following a 75-yard SaRodorick Thompson touchdown run that, seemingly, put the Red Raiders in front for good. Texas Tech had been hanging around all day but took a 42-38 lead heading into the fourth quarter and then began pulling away.
